When In Malaysia…

  • Like most Southeast Asia countries, you will never stop sweating.
  • You will notice that the culture is highly influenced by the Chinese and Indians due to how many have settled down there.
  • Kuala Lumpur, the countries capital, compared to cities further out are like night and day with differences.  The small towns, like where we lived, are very simple, whereas KL is filled with extravagant skyscrapers and is extremely “rich”.
  • You must be careful as a missionary, because it is illegal to evangelize.
  • Almost every stall in the markets sells fried chicken.
  • It’s a short plane ride away to Singapore.
  • Kuala Lumpur is extremely western, you name it and it’s there.  For example, they have Starbucks, Outback, Chilis, Dunkin Donuts, H&M, Banana Republic and so much more.
  • You will find many Indian restaurants with delicious roti (which is similar to chapati that we ate in Uganda and Rwanda).
  • There’s a good amount of people that speak English.
  • The landscape is filled with jungles.
  • It’s not uncommon to go on a run and see some monkeys playing in the trees.

It was a great final month in Asia.  It’s crazy to think we have already finished 3 months in Africa, 5 months in Asia and are on to our last 3 months in Central America.  Thanks for keeping me in your prayers these last 8 months!
