Beacon of Hope – Africa (BOHA) is a home for teenage boys located in Mozambique, Africa. It exists to empower young men to break free from the bondage of poverty through education, life skills training, and the love of Christ. As these boys transform, they become men of integrity, honor, grace, and courage. They leave with not only an education to make a way for a promising career but also the knowledge of who they are in Christ.”

This is the mission of Beacon of Hope – Africa, our ministry partner for this month. Our host, Angie (originally from Texas ), founded Beacon of Hope in 2002 after falling in love with Mozambique and saying yes to God’s call on her life. After working with another ministry in the area, she recognized the need for a place where young men could be taught how to be men of God through family life and life skills training. She has had around 30 boys come through the program, with about 12 of them completing the 3-4 year program. Many of these boys are now in successful careers throughout Africa. This month we have had the great opportunity to come alongside Angie in her mission to bring the hope of Christ to these young men.

Beacon of Hope currently has seven wonderful boys in the program. Their names are Justino, Gerson, Daniel, Alexandre, Titos, Rafique, and Fernando. These young men are so special. From the moment that we walked into the door, they have been serving us as well as always putting a smile on our faces. For ministry, we have been working with the boys in the evening on skills such as Bible study, science, English, and general life skills. I have been teaching them English on Monday nights, and they are so eager to learn that it makes teaching fun. Along with the evening classes, we have been working on various projects for the ministry such as planting a garden, painting, organizing files, and managing social media. This weekend, we will be putting on a Vacation Bible School for the boys here, their families, and some of the neighborhood children. Next week, we will be starting a soccer ministry in the afternoons for the boys and neighborhood children.

Our time here at Beacon of Hope has been so full. Please keep Angie and her ministry in your prayers, and be sure to check out Beacon of Hope’s website (http://www.beaconofhope-africa.org) and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beacon-of-Hope-Africa/115841905149) as they are in need of support for on-going projects as well as general support for the boys and ministry. Thank you for your continual love and support thus far. I love you all so so much!
