So, here's a super quick and brief update of what we've been doing in Honduras so far.
Our hosts for this month is Tony and his wife Nidia, who leads a ministry called Zion's gate. But we started this month working with another ministry three hours away in Talanga called Heart of Christ Ministries run by this amazing woman Gracie and her husband Papi Lee ๐
Heart of Christ Ministries ministers to women and children that have been abused, molested, raped surprisingly mostly by members of their own family. I love what they're doing and greatly believe in the ministry. At the same time though, it was so difficult and disheartening hearing the stories of these girls who are now mothers of fatherless children. Spiritually, it was very dark, and I greatly appreciate the light that Gracie brings to these girls, who are all younger than 18 years old. Please do continue to pray for them and the other children that she's taking care of, all abandoned by their families.
We've now been back in Tegucigalpa at Zion's Gate. Tony and his wife (and a handful of volunteer missionaries) minister mainly to street boys. He reaches out and builds relationships with them in hopes that they would leave the street life and their addiction to paint thinner. He has a good number of boys living with him now, putting them through school and doing nightly devotions with them with an in-house pastor. It's amazing to see how God has brought Tony here in Honduras, and God moved in the lives of the boys that live here. Those boys are so precious, please keep them in your prayers. There are still a few struggles here and there, but God's grace abounds in this place, so praise the Lord.
This week my team was assigned to hospital ministry and the yellow building. I love both ministries. I love being able to pray for people at the hospital (I mean, painting was okay too, but I loved praying for them more lol). My small group focused mainly on the Pediatric ICU department. So, not only did we have the opportunity to being the spirit of healing to the kids in the ICU, we were also able to bring the spirit of comfort for the parents outside in the waiting area. To grieve with them, and to bring them God's peace.
The yellow building is such a fun ministry. The yellow building is really this abandoned building down the street from the Zion Gate compound. It's painted yellow, hence, "the yellow building". Going in, all we knew was that a bunch of kids in the neighborhood hang out there to play soccer and possibly get high. Our main goal was to try to build relationships with them and get them familiar with Tony's ministry. Since I can't really play soccer, I focused my time playing soccer with the little kids that hang out there ๐ They're so precious and they keep asking me about the statue of liberty and Houston and Chicago HA! Yesterday, it was pretty cool to see some of them at Zion's Gate ๐ So, things are looking good!
Next week is going to be our last full week in Honduras, and we leave mid-week after that. Please do continue to pray for all the different ministries that all the different teams are working with, and especially to the boys at Tony's.
