hi! my name is april, but my friends & family have called me ape for as long as i can remember. i’m 23 years old & i live in akron, ohio. until august, that is. i graduated in may of this year with a degree in early childhood education. woo!

i love jesus & traveling & meeting new people & doing crazy things…so the world race seems perfect for me.

i’ve lived in ohio for pretty much my whole life. my fam is great & consists of me, my mom, dad and 2 brothers. i’m the middle child & the only girl. below is a picture of  us:

my younger brother, erik, is 20 and my older brother, dan, is 29.

my love for traveling & adventure began my junior year of college when i studied abroad in australia. while i was there i experienced God’s faithfulness and provision as he instantly developed a lifelong friendship between myself & 3 beautiful, adventure-seeking girls from california who love him like few people i have ever known. more on this in how i was called to missions. but below is a picture of these girls who awakened a new spirit within me & taught me how to live in the freedom that jesus gives: (lalia, nicole & crissa)

since australia i havent been able to stop traveling. it’s like i caught a weird bug. last summer i got a nannying job & lived in santa barbara, california with lalia & nicole. everytime i’m with them God stirs up this desire in me for something more than just a conventional life. it was the best summer of my young life:

in ohio i have amazing friends as well. one of whom is chelsea, my best friend & fellow world racer. 🙂

so you can know a little bit more about me…

i love…

  • jesus & im sooo excited/ thankful for the opportunity he has blessed me with to do something crazy like this. & for everything he is doing now in my life to prepare me for what’s coming next.
  • laughing all the time.
  • running, swimming, yoga, hiking…basically anything active.
  • being outside. if i could, i would spend every second of my life outside, but living in ohio makes that pretty impossible.
  • adventures. traveling. camping. being a vagabond. living life to the fullest.
  • spontaneity.
  • reading a million different books at one time
  • being barefoot.
  • photography. i actually just started selling my photos here: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6265108
  • the office.

oh, also: we had to take an intense personality test for the race and this was the little story it wrote about me. it’s pretty right on. so abide by it if you’re trying to get to know me. 😉

April requires many good reasons, as well as the benefits involved, before agreeing to

making changes.  When the time is right, April can stand up aggressively for what she

believes.  She is family-oriented.  She may go to great lengths to ensure the “happiness” of

her personal or work family.  When people are involved, she may not always be precise

about the use of her time.  April succeeds through hard work and persistence.  She likes to

stay with one task until it is completed.  She can be possessive and develop strong

attachments for her work group, close friends and family.  Once “in the groove” of an

established work pattern, April can follow it with seemingly unending patience.  She

doesn’t resist change as much as she resists being changed.  She needs to be an active

participant in situations that will impact her work or ministry.  April likes to succeed through

persistence.  She uses her strong, steady tendencies to accomplish her goals.  She needs

time for some study and analysis, particularly when doing new or challenging assignments.

This allows her to adjust to the changing environment.

April is persistent and persevering in her approach to achieving goals.  Once she has

arrived at a decision, she can be tough-minded and unbending.  She has made her

decision after gathering much data, and she probably won’t want to repeat the process.

She tries to use balanced judgment.  She is the person who brings stability to the entire

team.  She is good at analyzing situations that can be felt, touched, seen, heard,

personally observed or experienced.  Her motto is, “facts are facts.”  April prefers to plan

her work and work her plan.  Others may find it refreshing to have her on their team.

Making plans and following those plans is important to her.  She can be sensitive to the

feelings of others and is able to display real empathy for those who are experiencing

difficulties.  She finds making decisions easier when she knows that others she respects

are doing the same thing; she then has a feeling of stability and “family.”

April likes to know what is expected of her in a working relationship and have the

duties and responsibilities of others who will be involved explained.  Communication is

accomplished best by well-defined avenues.  She is quick to pick up on group dynamics

and skilled in fitting in with a group.  She brings both speaking and listening skills to the

group.  She will be open with those she trusts; however, reaching the required trust level

may take time.  She likes a friendly, open style of communication.  April is not easily

triggered or explosive, but she may hold on to some grievances because she doesn’t

always state her feelings.  She does not enjoy confrontation for confrontation’s sake.  She

feels she can succeed through patience and resolve.  She usually is considerate,

compassionate and accepting of others; however, on some occasions can become

stubborn.  Stubbornness surfaces when her ideals and beliefs are confronted.
