Justin Gibson always said that Jesus
sometimes calls us to humiliate ourselves. Our afternoons at Caminul Felix had
me gearing up to “be awkward for Jesus”. We split up into two teams and would
go visit each of the homes for a few hours. A lot of the time, there was not
much English spoken, the parents didn’t exactly know what to do with us, and
the kids were often shy and wary of what we were doing. There were lots of
soccer games (tried my best but ultimately made a fool of myself), tossing
around a volleyball, lots of miscommunications and hand signals, and one time
we even got to sit down to watch Beauty and the Beast in Romanian. There were
some really great relationships formed, but we often went home at night
confused and sometimes frustrated at how difficult it was to minister to the
families. I wished we could have helped with practical things, like cooking or
cleaning, but instead the Lord wanted us to be awkward for Him! He’s a funny
one, that God!

We also attended the Caminul Felix choir
practice on Saturday mornings, which consisted of us sitting on the sidelines
for 2.5 hours trying to decipher the words and feel slightly useful. Who knows
if they appreciated or cared if we were there, but we were obedient to where
the Lord called us for this season, and if that means awkwardly trying our
best, then so be it!!

Also, I encourage you to go be awkward for
Jesus. It’s uncomfortable, but you always get a little chuckle out of it
afterwards.
