Last week I had an appointment with my doctor to talk about vaccinations and the like. I got my Hepatitis A Booster shot, and started on the Typhoid treatment: a very interesting process where you have 4 pills that you take every other day on an empty stomach. A live typhoid virus! So far nothing bad has happened to me, so I’ll live to tell the tale. I got my prescription for an anti-Malarial but I haven’t filled it yet…he prescribed me Doxycycline, a general antibiotic which is NOT good to take for 8 months in a row! If there’s anything I learned from my Microbiology class last semester, it’s that those good bacteria are there for a reason! I want my stomach bacteria to be nice & happy when presented with exotic, unfamiliar foods and not mad at me for killing them all off. So, I’ll probably switch to Larium, which is more specific and you only have to remember to take it once a week. SCORE! We talked about the Japanese Encephalitis vaccine, but it apparently costs $350 and is only available at one place in Houston….not worth it. Plus, it’s kind of like our West Nile– there are outbreaks, but not like Swine Flu or anything. All I have to do now is get that pesky Yellow Fever vaccine…only available at one place in all of Brazos County! They inject it into the fat at the back of your arm so I suspect that will be a unique experience to say the least…..

Life has been pretty run of the mill lately. I had a big biochem test Monday that I studied my butt off for and it seemed to be of no avail… I sat down to the test and froze when I saw the mechanisms I had practiced over and over and over again–couldn’t remember a thing! All the acetyl Co-As, enoyl hydratases, and beta-ketoacyl dehydrogenases all ran together so I’m about 90% I failed that sucker. I was hoping this 3rd test would redeem my first 2 and that I would be able to pass BUT it sorta looks like I’ll have to retake it in the fall. BUMMER BUMMER BUMMER! It’s not the end of the world, and it’s not like I won’t be able to handle it (I’m only taking one other class) but it makes it hurt that much more after I’ve worked so hard! I mean, I’m probably gonna pray for nothing short of a miracle, but I think it’s easier to accept defeat now then get my hopes up for when grades come in. I’m going to hunker down and know the material left & right for the final, but I’m just trying to be realistic. Or pessimistic. Either or!

Exhibit A:

RIDICULOUS! and that’s only the 2nd half…..

Highlight of the week: A fondue party with my ComGroup! We (the church) are all going through this workbook together called the Tangible Kingdom and one of the “community” nights suggests having a fondue night. It was so fun! We had the cheese fondue with veggies & bread, the oil fondue for steak, and the chocolate fondue for marshmallows, fruit, pretzels, and poundcake. YUM! Have I mentioned that I love my church?

So, sorry if this post wasn’t all super spiritual and serious, but that’s not who I am so why fake it? Maybe next week my blog will have more substance

Hope everyone is having a great day! What has the highlight of your week been? When was the last time you had fondue?
