this may seem like a simple answer, but there was a lot of frustrastion, rearranging, and prayer to figure out when i would actually be leaving. When I applied to do the Race in November ’09, my vision was to be a apart of the October race. Since August I had been watching the website for an announcement for the trip i could actually attend, and October seemed like the perfect time! August 2010 had been my projected graduation date for quite some time, and this would give me a solid month or so to prepare myself and take care of loose ends before leaving. After going through the application process and ultimately being accepted, I made a visit to my advisor to ensure I could walk out in August as a free woman. Not exactly the case! There were certain classes that weren’t working out right, and all the prereqs for courses were throwing everything off. I even tried to change my degree track, but nothing seemed to work well. i got a little downhearted that i wouldn’t be graduating until Dec,  but assumed the WR team could work something out. After discussing logistics and options, my current status is still on the Oct ’10 race; which acts as a placeholder and helps me start planning out these next 2 years. Once the WR team announces the Jan ’11 race, they’ll switch me over and I’ll be a apart of that team until my journey ends! Also, this strategic start date ensures that i won’t have to miss any Christmases. BOOYAH!

january 2011. be there.
