Imagine this:
A packed 5,000 seat mega church! Standing room only, great worship band bringing the house down with amazing popular Christian songs! You sit down after they are done with your hot coffee from the church coffee shop in your cushioned seat, the famous author/evangelist preacher steps on the stage with a multitude of lights shining down on him. You wait, excited for whatever message he is going to tell you.  Now picture this: parking your beat up old car in a rock quarry in the pitch black of night, pile into a module building with one light, a tiny AC unit, and all but a few people sitting on the ground. Now imagine about 25 people representing 5 different nationalities, not understanding each other, but all worshiping and loving the same God!  THAT is my kind of church service! No glitz, no glam, JUST JESUS! Being in this “work community” (these were all men and women who left their native countries to work in the rock quarry) really opened my eyes to how big our God truly is. Just because these men and women cannot afford much more than the clothes on their back and some rice and chicken for dinner does not mean they are any less of a Christ follower than someone who drives a brand new 2013 shiny car into the mega church parking lot. If anything they have MORE faith because that is ALL THEY HAVE! We told them we would pray for them and they all huddled together on their knees and just opened themselves up to more of who GOD is. No worldly distractions, no jumbo screens, not even a solid building to worship in! In this country, you can be thrown in jail for preaching the name of JESUS to Malays, but HE is WAY more powerful than any government, and people will still be desperate for Him. We all need Him. Just because someone cannot shower twice a day or have the money to get that infection on their foot looked at, Jesus still sees them as beautiful children of His Father and wants them to enter into an eternal relationship with Him.  It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever been able to be a part of. God has no stereotypes. He doesn’t judge based on socioeconomic status, nationality, or any connotation associated with them. We all worship Him and He loves it!
