Three long days of travel, and four countries later, we have finally made it to Africa! And what a whirlwind these last two weeks have been! Between ending our time in Central America with the team we’ve been with for the last four months, debrief, team changes, a short twelve hours in D.C. getting to see family, and a continent change, I think I can safely say this is going to be a season of new beginnings. And I am so ready!
One of the biggest changes of these last two weeks has been team changes. Team changes bring so many mixed emotions. Sadness about leaving your old team. Excitement about the possibility that a new team brings. But I think we were all ready for the change, because where there is change, there is the opportunity for growth. And so, let me introduce to you, Team Agape! We are a team of seven; four girls, three boys, and we come from Louisiana, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. I am so excited to serve with this new team and know we will be a team that sharpens one another. You can access their blogs on the left hand side of my blog, and get to know them a little! This month, we are in Livingstone, Zambia, partnering with J Zone Ministries, and we absolutely love it! We are paired with another team this month and are living and serving together. Ministry will probably look a little different every day, but we will be evangelizing, working in an orphanage, serving widows, and putting on a children’s day camp, just to name a few. Here is a little glimpse into what day-to-day life is like here in Zambia: I usually roll out of my tent around 6:30 a.m., try and do some sort of workout around 7:00, run to the shower and hope the water hasn’t been turned off yet, settle in on the front stoop with a cup of coffee for my quiet time, head to ministry around 9:00, back for lunch around 12:00 or 1:00, head back out to ministry in the afternoon, return to the house around 4:00-5:00, do team time as a group is working on preparing dinner(usually takes a few hours as we only have one burner), have dinner all together, and then spend the rest of the night playing Nerts, would you rather, or watching an episode of the Hills with all the girls; by that time, we are all pretty exhausted, and fall into our tents, asleep within minutes. In the short time we’ve been here, I can already tell this month is going to be special, and I am excited for the ways God is going to move in the community and in each of us.
Wifi is somewhat limited, but will try and keep you all updated throughout the month! Sending my love from Zambia!
