The beauty of the Dominican Republic comes to me in sounds, tastes, and beautiful faces. Sounds of joyous singing. Sounds of vendors riding through the street selling fruits of all kind. Tastes of refreshing tang. Tastes of warm spiced milk and cookies for breakfast. And best of all, the most beautiful faces. Faces reflecting love and joy. Although we have only been here for three days, we have already been so blessed by the outpouring of love and generosity of our host and the people in the community.
This month, my team is paired with another team, Forerunners, and we are doing ministry together in Santo Domingo. We are working with Iglesia Cristiana Bendicion, a local church, and have divided into three groups to do ministry; one group will teach English, one group will be doing door to door ministry, and my group will be cleaning the church. Our host, Juan, is the pastor of the church, and he and his wife have been so hospitable. We are eager to start ministry and serve this community with full hearts.
Life is simple here. And there is so much goodness in that. The best moments are the ones where we are sitting on the roof discussing what it means to live authentically. Or savoring a precious VIA packet. Or sitting with a sweet seven-year old on the floor of the church learning all about her favorite things. There is so much beauty in living simply, and I am eager to embrace this season. Thank you to all who have sent sweet words of encouragement and support in the last week, you have all touched my heart. Wifi is somewhat limited, but I will do my best to share about our time this month when I can! Sending my love from afar!
