Alright, so it happend again. This
past Monday was another best and worst day.
It started off with John and I going with Rajesh on the motocycle down the
road to see monkeys!!! I really like
monkeys so I was soooooo excited! They
live just 2 minutes down the road and we hadn’t gone to see them yet. So we got on the bike and headed down the
road. Riding on a motorcycle in India
and monkeys…SWEETNESS!
I’ve wanted to ride on a motorbike in India just because it would be so
cool. AND it was! We drove down the road….and saw no
monkeys. We kept driving…still no
monkeys. We decided to turn around. We drove back and looked again for
monkeys. I prayed that we would see a
whole bunch of them. Finally, John saw a
monkey! WOOT ๐ Then we looked to the other side and saw
another one…and another one! There
were probably 20 monkeys in a nearby tree!
It was fantastic ๐ We watched a
mother monkey pick lice from her baby, another monkey eat a coconut and other
monkeys practically falling from branch to branch! So great ๐
On our way back to the orphanage we stopped on the side of the road because
we saw baby chicks!!!! There were
baskets of baby chicks being sold for 3 Rupees a piece. We were able to hold them which reminded me
of when I was little when we went to my Uncle’s chicken farm! Very exciting indeed!
THEN, the man selling them started to dye the chicks. He had pink dye and was rubbing the chicks
with it. WHAT? After that he started to dye another basket
of chickens with one black stripe down the chicks’ backs. I was so shocked. They dye them because children like them better
in pretty colours. Children buy them as
pets but they only last about 3 weeks.
Anyway, that was exciting.
Then the worst part came. Monday was
our last day at the orphanage. All day
the children were upset because we were leaving. We had a going away party but the goodbyes
were really difficult. Lots of the
children were crying and asking us to stay. It was so sad.
I didn’t think it would be that hard to leave the children since we only
really knew them for 3 weeks, but it was really hard. I really have enjoyed playing with the
children and teaching them in our music class and Sunday School. I am so glad I was able to use my guitar to
impact the children and bring joy to their lives. I really think some of them will become great
guitar players…they caught on so quickly.
The reason it was so hard to leave the children was because people in their
lives are always leaving them. Some have
parents, but they don’t see them very often. Others have been left by their parents, relatives and everyone else they
know.
The children really showed me how to be joyful in all situations. Except for when we left, they always seemed
to be smiling, joyful and full of love! It was encouraging and a great example for all of us. I hope they saw Jesus through us as
well. These children will have a big
impact on India!
Annie
p.s. They had all my favourite meals on our last day. Pourri and potato curry for breakfast, a big
Indian meal for lunch with tandoori chicken, butter chicken, dahl and more and
then rice, curd, and banana for supper! Thank you Madhava, Nirmala and Rajesh!
