Recently, a common question that has arisen when talking about the Race is, “So what are your plans when you get back?”

I normally will laugh and say, “LOL, what’s a 2016?” or something ironic like “probably get married and have babies, or something.” And then I’ll hasten to change the subject as fast as I can.

But really, this question baffles me. It always has, and I feel like it’s a common question that gets asked consistently in our culture from the time we’re teenagers.

“Where are you going to college?”

“What’s your major?”

“What are you doing after graduation?”

“Do you have any jobs lined up?”

“Oh okay, you’re a nanny—but what are you doing after that as a real job?”

“What are your plans after you get back from the World Race?”

People, hear me. I’m so thankful that you’re interested. Thank you, genuinely, for asking. But at the end of the day, the answer is I DO NOT KNOW. I’m not there yet, and I am 1000% comfortable and content with not knowing.

I just finished a study on the book of Ruth (seriously… go buy it. It will rock your face off). Ruth went from being a foreigner from Moab to less than a servant in Israel. Then, Boaz made her his maiden and then his wife. And then, hundreds of years later, God used her in the genealogy of the ultimate Kinsman-Redeemer, Jesus.

Ruth has an incredible story that impacts lives today. But she did not know that the Lord would use her in such incredible ways when she was in Moab. The Lord built her story, intimately and purposefully, step by step. He brought her to the next stage of her life in His perfect timing and, long after she was gone, He gave her a legacy.

The Lord is going to give me a legacy, and He as written an incredible story in my life. The next step in that story is for me to go on the World Race, which, I’ve gotta say, is pretty stinkin’ incredible. I can only imagine that “what’s next” after I get home will be even more incredible. My future is secure in Jesus, and I’m not worried about it because He WILL establish my steps.

And so, don’t ask me about 2016. I couldn’t tell you what the Lord’s gonna do even if I tried. But it’s gonna be good, because He is good. Instead, let’s celebrate the present! The Lord is transforming me, my friends, and my family already through the Race. He is healing, providing, teaching, refining, restoring, and preparing the way for incredible things. I am taking this journey one step at a time, and I am loving watching Abba do His thing.
