Africa has been incredible. Our team had two jam-packed months of ministry including door-to-door evangelism, preaching, teaching, leading Bible studies and children’s programs, and so much more. They were two months of growing, stretching, and really learning a lot about ourselves. Malawi and Zambia are beautiful countries full of beautiful people. But of course, we also faced a lot of challenges and really got out of our comfort zones a few times.

On one twelve hour bus ride across Zambia, Emma and I watched Nacho Libre (one of my favorite movies of all time, and I realized just how much it parallels with our lives for the past two months.

So without further ado, here is a snapshot of some of our experiences in Africa…as told by Nacho Libre.

1. When you eat nothing but rice, beans, and pasta for two months straight

2. When you are served a whole fish for lunch…eyes and everything

3. And when your stomach can never seem to digest any of that food

4. When you’re asked to sing in front of the whole church, but you haven’t prepared anything

5. When you try to go to the bathroom in the outhouse and a cockroach runs out of the hole towards you

6. When you can never quite think of what to say during door-to-door evangelism

7. When you are asked to preach on the spot without any time to prepare, and you feel like you’re rambling

8. When you haven’t had any alone time in weeks and you really need some space

9. But when you realize that everything is totally worth it because you are sharing the love of Christ with so many people in so many different nations

10. And when you look back on all the fond and crazy memories and remember that you just lived in Africa for two months
