There is something so cleansing about water.

Whether you are drinking it, swimming in it, or bathing in it, one thing that always comes along with water is a sense of being refreshed.

On a hot summer day, a dip in the pool feels like a breath of fresh air. And after a long day, a bath or shower can be just what you need to renew yourself.

In the word, the Lord is compared to water on so many occasions (ex. John 7, Isaiah 58, etc.). It says in these scriptures that God is the living water that we are in need of to properly fulfill our lives.

Hydration is necessary. I often find myself reminding those around me to drink plenty of water or else there will be negative repercussions such as fatigue, problems focusing, lightheadedness, irritability, or confusion. Just as not drinking physical water causes health problems, not allowing the Lord to pour into us frequently and fully can be detrimental to our spiritual lives. We may find ourselves thirsty for things that aren’t good for us because of the distance we put between ourselves and what God is calling us to. This results in a craving for the Lord but we mistake it for craving the things of this world, I like to call this spiritual dehydration. When this occurs in us, it is so important that we meditate in God’s word and spend time in prayer so that we can become refreshed and renewed. By opening up to the Lord we allow him to nurture and prepare us for what he has planned.

When we take part in hydrating ourselves with the Holy Spirit, the result is something so beautiful. We begin to view ourselves the way He wants us to. We begin to learn more about what it means to love others the way Jesus loves us. And we start to see our Father for who he is. All of these effects of embracing God as ‘living water’ can act as a driving force in our everyday lives that will help bring the kingdom of heaven to all corners of our offices, classrooms, and communities.

My goal for myself and the family of God as a whole, is that we take responsibility for allowing the Lord to hydrate each and every one of us. And when it is hard to take on for ourselves, I pray that you are surrounded with those who will pour into you and remind you of the cleanliness that comes with being spiritually hydrated by the God that pursues you and wants to give you a life that is overflowing.
