Honestly, the movie was quoted to me so many times that, by the time I watched
it, I was already sick of it. That’s not the point. Do you remember the scenes
when they hear from God? The sky literally opens and there He is, in infinite cartoonish
glory, loudly speaking to them about the road set before them. They heard from
God. Granted it was a mock representation, but they heard from him, and they
went on their quest. I kinda feel like Monty Python today, except with a loving God and a better entourage.
10 days ago we were told that Egypt was out, and to start
praying about the next country God wanted to take us to. I did, and tomorrow we arrive in the country
God showed me we were supposed to go to. The heavens did not rip open. God did
not blind me while walking down the road. I didn’t hear a booming voice. Now
how do I know that we were supposed to go to Montenegro?
1.
First day, it randomly popped into my head. Just
a random passing thought: “Isn’t Montenegro in Eastern Europe. No, I think it’s
by Russia. Hmm… Russia’s really big. So is Canada. Texas is a big state too. Oh
Texas. Wonder how the frozen banana stand is… Is dinner ready yet?”
2.
The next day, I told my dad we were supposed to pray
about going to a country in Eastern Europe. He said He’s always wanted to go to
Montenegro.
3.
The next day, I was watching ‘Casino Royale’, in
between runs to the outhouse. The next time a Romanian offers me Mexican food,
I’m going to punch them in the jaw. I’m not really paying attention to the
movie, but then the word, “Montenegro” appears on the screen.
4.
One week later, we’re given three countries to
pray about going to:
a.
Albania
b.
Serbia
c.
Montenegro
decisions on, because all of them can just be random coincidence. Just like the
random coincidence that this guy from my church ten years ago is now a full
time missionary in Russia, has established an organization in Montenegro, and is
good friends with pastor of the church in Podgorica, Montenegro. I think the
best coincidence of all is that God loves me and I love Him.
gotten those words that are undeniably God and have gotten words for people
that are scarily accurate. But, for the most part, He speaks in the little
things, all the time. The people who hear from God are just the ones who look
for opportunities to listen. He’
speaking to you, I promise. Take a risk, and listen.
