Honduras.
After ten years of waiting to visit Honduras, I am here. Siquatapeque, Honduras is the center of all the Americas. It is a land of much beauty: green and mountainous and full of wildflowers, and the weather is perfect.
My team and I are staying at an orphanage called La Providencia. It is no traditional orphanage, however. Instead of dozens of kids living and sleeping in the same space, these ex-orphans are “adopted” by parents and live in a real family. On the 100 acres of property owned by La Providencia, there are currently three family houses, a hospital used by medical teams throughout the year, a licensed school, one hundred young fruit trees, a plantain tree plantation, a patch of producing coffee plants, two-hundred baby coffee plants, a green bean field, a red bean field, a coop of egg-laying hens, and more. The produce and coffee and eggs are sold in order to help the orphanage be a little bit self-sustaining. The operation is super impressive.
When I first heard my team would be at an orphanage all month, I pictured holding babies every day. That is not the case, and I feel I’m currently in a baby-famine. We have been doing a ton of manual labor. The biggest job has been clearing trees and brush from part of a mountain. I must say, my team has been champs, cutting trees with machetes and carrying logs bigger than any human should ever have to carry on his shoulder. We have also helped paint the interior of the third family house; fertilized, watered, picked, and ate fresh beans; and watered the baby fruit trees, among other things.
This month has been hard in some personal ways, but my Father is patient with me. Even when I want to shake my fist at Him and ask Him a million questions all over again, He just stares at me with love in His eyes and waits for me to get over myself so He can come to my rescue.
Thank you for your prayers. I appreciate them, and I do need them.
I am currently $2,869 away from being fully funded. To partner with me through this next year, please click the “support me” link in my blog and donate any amount; also, subscribe to my blog so you don’t miss an update. A notification will be sent to your email.
Thanks again, friends! Blessings and peace.
