Well here we are at our 11th month and 11th country. South Africa wasn't even on our original route but it was on my list of places that I wanted to visit on a mission trip. I am beyond excited to be here in Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa doing ministry this month.
About South Africa:
Outsiders' views of South Africa are colored by the same stereotypes as the rest of Africa. Contrary to popular belief, South Africa is not devastatingly poor with an unstable government. South Africa is to a large extent two countries within one . On the one hand it is a first world state, especially the major cities such as Cape Town and Johannesburg, and and on the other hand it is under-developed and has large scale poverty. South Africa is one of the most unequal countries in the world where opulence and severe poverty can often be observed together. The rural part of South Africa remains among the poorest and the least developed parts of the world and poverty in the townships can be appalling, progress is being made.
Jeffrey's Bay
The Jeffreys Bay region is renowned for its gorgeous beaches, never ending summers, plentiful shells and is best known as ?the Surf Mecca of the World?. Currently we're staying here during the large Winter fest Surfing competition.
Ministry
This month we've been connected with Feather foot horse farm via the family that we are staying with. They were looking for a way for us to serve the community and came into contact with a lady name Hilmary. Yes, indeed we are doing ministry at a horse farm this month. My team goes to the farm 5 days a week to help groom, clean paddocks, and assist with outrides and riding lessons.
Prayer for this month:
– pray for myself, and the rest of the member of my team as we prepare to "re-enter"
– pray for daily strength and that God would show us how to bless Hilmary well at her farm
– pray for those who have been impact by HIV. Even though the rate of occurrences has decline there are still many who feel the impact. There are still according to Operation World 2010 500,000 new infections each year and nearly 2 million AIDS orphans in South Africa.
– pray for the Christians that they would know how to love those around them well through reaching out. And for revival in the church.
– pray that God would provide all of the finances I need as I return to my nanny job and that HE would provide a secondary income.
