Lots of people have been asking “what’s in your pack” and the answer is not much!!! Not much for 9 months of traveling!
My pack includes:
6 shirts/tank tops
1 flannel
1 fleece
3 workout shorts
2 normal pants & 1 skirt
2 sports bras
8 pairs of underwear
A couple of head bands and toiletries!
And then of course my tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and a thin towel!
Along with my big pack, I have a day pack which holds my electronics, lots and lots of baby wipes, wallet, and bible/journal!
So far, I have survived with that pack! (In month 5 now) Sometimes it’s really hard having only a weeks worth of clothes. It’s also hard to feel pretty when your sweating 24/7, you never wear makeup, and your hair is frizzy all the time due to the humidity. But you gotta make it work!
The race can be hard! Don’t get me wrong, I love it here in the Philippines and I’m so glad to be here on the World Race, but Its challenging. I’ve struggled a lot in the past month…not really “feeling” myself has been hard. Not doing my makeup, not being able to straighten my hair, or choose a new outfit from my closet has gotten to me. Wearing workout clothes for months in a row makes me miss my style at home. I was also sick with tonsillitis and Typhoid. (I got over it about a week ago) I had no energy, was throwing up, shivering from a fever (yet sweating at the same time from being in a hot room), my tonsils were swollen and sore and I was super weak. (Talk about not feeling myself!!) And being away from home when you’re that sick is miserable! All I wanted to do was go home to my cold basement and watch movies (with my mom)!
Yes, the race is hard at times and you face many challenges, but I have to keep reminding myself that the reasons why I’m here trump that insecurity of feeling like a boy 99.9% of the time, being sick, missing home, being tired, and sweating 24/7! Serving the lord is WORTH that! And much much more. And living out of a backpack is worth traveling the world!!
Thanks you to those who prayed for me while being sick. Please continue to pray for strength, and energy as I continue these next 4 months! Also pray that I continue to wake up saying “yes” to God every morning…no matter how exhausted, or even discouraged I may be in the future!
God is good. And He loves us. So I am good (:
