Every Thursday the ministry here takes about 150 lunches to the dump for the kiddos there. We all piled into the back of a truck, picked up the food, and headed over. Mama Hilda and staff teach the kiddos Christian songs, a prayer, and manners. In a place that is quite literally a dump, manners seem out of place. Yet it is a lesson well learned.

My heart went out to the kiddos who wear clothes more than likely found on the hill of trash and with sores on their faces. Even so they have the most precious giggles when you give them a piggy back ride or begin a game of tickling. I couldn’t get enough of those giggles!

The parents work so hard to provide for their families. To be a part of feeding them one good meal was an honor. For the first time in the history of this ministry, we were invited to be a part of their life for a day. Next Wednesday we will do life with them from the morning until the end of their work day. Under normal conditions I would shy away from a day spent at the dump. But I felt the heart behind this invitation. To be invited into a family for a day. Sign me up!

God, teach me what it is like to walk in their shoes for a day. Give me the compassion to feel what they feel. Fill me with a love that is bigger than myself and overflows onto the family that I will have the honor of joining next week. And let Your presence be known in that place.
