A new continent, a new climate, a new ministry.
Or I guess I should say ministries.
This month we were working with a church, and involved in many different aspects. On the first day, as I was attempting to stay awake over my jet lag, I was told that I would be teaching English with my teammate Rachel, for the month. Of course there was no lesson plan. I felt pretty nervous about it, because I haven’t taught English before. Not to mention the fact that I am not a teacher in general. And let’s be honest, it’s been a while since I’ve studied grammar rules!
So for the first session, I decided I would put on a smile, grin and bear it – do my best.
Marian, our driver, quickly became our funny and wonderful friend.
And as soon as I saw the girls and walked into the little living room, I felt at peace. I already knew that this would be the part of ministry that would steal my heart this month.
These girls were so sweet! Who would have thought I would have so much fun with six high school girls that speak very little English. Our attempts at speaking a few words of Romanian always made for some good laughs!
Having no lesson plan was actually a great thing. We were able to be creative – teaching song lyrics, bingo, family pictures and things of the like. But the best part of all was just spending the time with these beautiful girls! They were so eager to learn. More than that, they were so full of love! We always greeted everyone with a big hug!
I found a love for these girls that could not be explained. I just loved showing them Jesus’s Love, and that they are loved in the same way that I am. They are loved just the way that they are made.
It was definitely the best part of the month. And so it was the hardest to say goodbye to them. But my prayer for each of our girls, is that they continue to search after the Father, and see themselves the way He sees them – young, beautiful and full of hope!
