When the light shines through
Even in a country where the truth has to be hidden and our intentions disguised, God’s light will always shine through. We spent the month praising God and reading our bibles behind closed doors. At the same time, we spent the month declaring light and truth over this city of Kuala Lipis:
Arise and Shine Kuala Lipis, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with joy.
This month we spend our days beautifying the center that we lived in and teaching English Friday and Saturday.
There are times when you never know the impact that you have had. Most the time you just have to trust. Trust that because you have done what the Lord asked, He will use you. Trust that you have had an impact even if you never get to see the big picture. Then, there are times that God blesses you with the chance to see the fruits of your labor, the time that you get to see what happens when the light shines though.
Sachvin
Erin and I taught the two middle school boys on Friday nights, we were told that they where painfully shy and did not talk at all. Somehow, we both knew that this was our class. Using our past experience that charisma translates better than anything, we went in with as many smiles and strange jokes as possible. You would have never known that a round of badminton and sharing some stories of what we had done on the race so far could matter so much. After that first class, they were as chatty as two middle school boys could be and seemed to enjoy themselves. Our contact, Kumar, told us that was the first time that he had seen them leave with a smile. Success.
As it turns out, the story is bigger than just that. One of the boy’s mom came and shared with Kumar that Sachvin, one of the boys, had lost his dad in the recent past. Since then, He had not spoken much to anyone, he had not smiled, and did not quite know what there was to live for. In that first day that we spent with him, God changed his heart. After sharing with him about poverty around the world and just making jokes, somehow something changed. He started talking again, He smiled more, and he realized that He was not the only one in this world with problems. Who knew that a two hours class could change so much. When he left that first day, he stopped at the door smiled, thanked us and walked out. We had no idea what was going though his head at the moment. God’s light shines through, even in a place where we cannot speak His name.
His light shines through.

The murals that we painted on the walls of the center.
Keep praying for the Christians in Malaysia as God is doing a lot of work here.
