My name is Angel Solberg. I was born and raised in New Brighton, Minnesota. I have been blessed to have been brought up in a Christian family. My parents have always been supportive of me and my every decision; I am so grateful for that.
In fifth grade I went with my mom on a short term mission trip to Mexico through my church. We rode on an old bus from Minnesota to Mexico. It was an amazing experience for me. At a very young age I got to see what true poverty was and immediately fell in love with the children. After my exposure to needy people and poverty, I began to have a heart for orphaned children. I just knew that I would one day work with orphans.
After high school I went to the University of St. Thomas. After spending my freshman year there I decided to transfer to Bethel University. I really enjoyed the close-knit Christian community Bethel had to offer, but after spending my sophomore year there I knew God had something different for me. A close friend of mine had taken the year off of school to join YWAM. As I continued to get his email updates I realized that what he was experiencing was something that my heart desired. In November of 2002 I packed up and flew to Kona, Hawaii to start my DTS. I did my outreach in Phnom Phen, Cambodia. Out of a class of 80 people my small team of five girls was blessed to live in an ORPHANAGE for two and a half months and serve God’s needy children! Through this experience my eyes were opened to the world and I knew I would go home a forever changed person. I have had some serious thoughts about joining YWAM staff, but felt that if I did not finish college I would regret it. I came back home to Minnesota and in June I finished the Elementary Education program at the University of Minnesota.
I have a group of tight-knit girl friends who I call my sisters! I know God brought us all together for a reason and I don’t know what I’d do without my girls. After doing the whole college thing, I realize the unique friendship I share with my girlfriends. Not many people have close, life-long friends and I feel so blessed. I was honored to stand up for two of the girls in their weddings this summer and I am excited to see where the Lord leads all of us.
As of right now I am full time summer nanny. I spend my days playing with and entertaining children…and get paid for it!
I am extremely thrilled to be a part of the World Race 2007. God has given me a heart and passion for His children and I can’t wait to see how God is going to use me through this experience. I am excited to see and learn new things as 2007 unfolds. I am also looking forward to meeting new people that love God and share a passion with me. I’m praying that God will use me, change me and bless others through me.
AND….on a less serious note…I love to goof around, laugh, not just “meet” new people, but really get to know them. I love to be a kid and don’t really plan on growing up:) I love to be adventurous and to see new things, meet new people (esp funny ones) and experience new cultures.
