(Lynn with Jen)

The Artist Cafe. Colorfully hand painted tables and local art on the walls. Mama Lynn is probably sitting outside chatting with her sister as they wait for a customer. Their children play and have fun in the shop while the family works. A coffee shop couldn't feel more homey unless it were actually in your house.

The owner of the restaurant, Lynn, is a warm, bright, and friendly woman and the love of Christ shines through all her actions. We have only been here for 2 weeks and she treats all of us as if we were family. She lets us paint designs on her tables and never fails to offer a tea or soda.

What this lovely woman won't tell you is how hard it is to run a restaurant in South Africa. Minimum wage is approximately $1 /hour. She lives in and works the restaurant all day every day except Sunday evenings.

Yesterday we celebrated Jen's birthday at the Artist Café. Lynn and her children had personally hand painted a Happy Birthday Sign for Jen and bought her a small gift. She baked 2 cakes and despite the fact that the cake was just as delicious as all of her other wonderful cakes, she tried to give them to us free because they fell in when they baked. She served us the whole night and even brought some board games from her house that we could play.

As I was leaving I found out that her daughter, Megan is trying to go on a mission trip to Sri Lanka and she needs to raise 17,000 Rand which is about $1,700 U.S. Dollars. That may not sound hard to do but in South Africa people might make $300 /month and $250 is the cost of monthly rent. I was excited to hear that they were working as a family and even scrounging together tips to try and send their daughter into the mission field. Praise God for passionate, joyful, and willing hearts who want to take the light of Christ to other nations.

So, as I was in my room last night praying for her mission and for the funds to come despite the poverty of the people. As I prayed the Lord told me to ask people at home to help send this girl to Sri Lanka. The Lord is going to do incredible things with Megan in Sir Lanka.

I'm going to do a two day fund-raising challenge. Pray about what you can give and let's send Megan to Sri Lanka to spread love of Christ!!
