Good news!
Great news, in fact!!
1. I am on the recovery from my Typhoid.
2. I know this is the team I am supposed to be with.
How did I get to those two conclusions, well sit back, buckle up and hold on.
Arriving at the church that would become our home for am month and we were all blown away by it's beauty, but even this beautiful church did not ease the pain of having to be with this team for another 4 months. I had come to the conclusion that I was just going to suck it up and put the smile on my face. We went out into the largest slum of Africa the next day to work with the children of Paradise Community Center. They captured my heart in an instant, but even they could not change my heart. The Lord was going to have to show up in a big way. Sunday came and the worship service was great. So amazing and fantastic. I hope worship is like that in Heaven, but still my heart remained unchanged. Then came Sunday night. Alana was sick during church and by the time we ate dinner I was feeling exhausted and nauseaus. Thirsty minutes later I was fumbling with my tent zipper trying to get it to open. When I finally opened it enough I burst out stumbling and racing for the bathroom. Then I lost my dinner to the porcelain throne and I had scraped my forearm open in rounding the bathroom corner.
Monday is our rest day and although I wanted to get stuff done I could barely stay awake. I didn't eat all day because I was sleeping. We found out one of our squadmates had gotten Malaria so my team wanted to take me to go get tested. Pretty soon Pastor Joseph arrived with 2 beautiful and lovely surprises, Krystal Wilcox and Rachel Duff. So now it was Nikki, Haile, Kyrstal, Rachel, Pastor Jospeh, and me all headed to the hospital. We get there and we wait and wait and wait. Finally when I am called back they do the basics, height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature. I am handed a bill and directed where to pay. Uhhh….okay? We get to the cashier and Nikki graciously puts the expense on her card because my money for the month had been stolen. Now back to the reception we go and I am told to wait some more. A few minutes later I am called to see the doctor. She listens to my lungs, looks at my throat and tells me I have the flu. She sends me to the pharmacy to pick up drugs, we are sent back the cashier where Nikki again pays for it all, back to the pharmacy and given 4 different drugs. YAY! or not so much.
I thought okay the flu that's better than malaria although they didn't even test me for it, but she is probably right i wasn't running a fever or anything. Tuesday came and I had to eat some food because I needed to take my meds. After dinner I was throwing up again. Great this is the worst. As I go to stand up I realize I don't even have the energy to do that. Haile came and helped me to my tent where I practically fell asleep in an instant. A few minutes later I was being woken up, back to the hospital we go. Although I was able to walk downstairs to the car I was so exhausted and just wanted to sleep. This time Nikki was going to demand a Malaria test and Typhoid test. It took about an hour to get to the hospital because of the rain and fuel shortage crisis that is happening right now in Kenya. Haile and Nikki were my lifesavers during this hospital trip once we got there. They practically did everything for me. I went in to see the doctor and he looked at my throat "You have some large spots and gunk on there", listened to my lungs and intestines, and then pushed on my stomach. The whole time I was thinking good thing I threw up earlier mister or you would be sorry. He ordered the Malaria test, Typhoid test, and a blood-count. Awesome I love having my blood drawn.
