Sometimes here on the race I feel like I live in a completely different world. It feels like I am living in a community where people are truly genuine and honestly caring about those around them. This month I am here in Tanzania a place where you walk up to a home and see ten kids there and maybe only two live there. But it is a place of community. A place where people’s hearts are selfless rather than selfish. Its not that they have to care, it’s that they chose to care. What an idea!

Today we were out doing door to door evangelism in our neighborhood. We met an elder in the community, a government official who invited us into his home. He shared with us how he came to Christ, about his family and honestly, he shared his life with us. He was a kind hearted man who blessed us with something to drink, a place to sit and a dinner invitation. He emphasized that we were always welcome in his home as members of the same body of Christ.  His unwavering kindness reminded me of all of the hospitality I have been met with in Africa and how straightforward and loving the heart of Christianity truly is.

So here is some food for thought. When was the last time you invited some one into your home just  so you could serve them? When was the last time you reached out a hand to your fellow brothers and sisters without a second thought? I know that before the race this was not something that I regularly practiced, but I want to change. I want to be that person that asks people into my home just to make them feel loved, just to serve them out of the kindness the Lord provides me. How about you? If you chose to serve someone, what is the worst thing that could happen?
