Veerapong

I don’t even know where to start talking about this man. It has been so good to spend the last week and a half with him and his family. They are some of the most loving and giving people that I have met in a long time and good cooks to boot. Not just to us and our team but to everyone around them. They have three boys living with them on top of the two of their own. The boys are from a village in the mountains and wouldn’t be able to go to school if it wasn’t for the family taking them in. Now they get to live close enough to the school that they can
go, and they also get to work with Vee in his sports ministry. It was a honor to work with someone that lives his life with so much integrity, intent and wisdom. Every person that we came in contact with, who knew him had respect for him, Christian or not.

When we we’re playing soccer, a government official came out and asked to meet with us.  As we went in the next day the mutual respect was obvious. Wee said that he has given money to help buy food and trophies for Wee’s soccer tournaments. When we went to a local Moy Thai fight, he invited us up into the ring to check it out. And the next night when we arrived a little late and all the seats where taken Wee got us into the VIP section where we were joined by the Governor, a Senator and the leader we had met earlier. They were all excited to talk with him and us. I can’t wait to see the great things that God is going to do with Vee’s life.

As we stayed up waiting for New Years I got listen to Wee talk about some of his vision for his ministry. He shared about how he feels that you have to work with the system that is in place and work to change it. He told me about a vision of have 200,000 to 300.000 people at a Christian concert in Northern Thailand. He told me in detail about the stage and the interments and all of these things like he was planing it for next week. He talked about raising up Thai people to lead Thai people. He shared how we wants to turn the bottom floor of his house
and the back yard into a youth center. All this coming from a man that doesn’t know where next months rent is going to come in from. He gives all of his time to these ideals and visions and lives on faith waiting to see where God is going to provide the money from.

I only wish that we could have spent more time with them and done more for them. But the time we had was awesome, spending time with the kids at the schools and playing soccer every evening with the youth, and getting to talk with the Thai government officials about developing a climbing area; and just getting to live simply with good people who where willing to open up the hearts and there homes to us. We’ll miss all of you.
