this week we have been welcomed into several schools here in
Thailand. And it got me thinking we wouldn’t be able to go into a
school and sing worship and talk about Jesus in the states. We are in
a
country that is 94.7% Buddhist and only .008% Christian and they
happily welcome us in and are excited to hear what we have to say,
even if we have different views on everything. If I had been asked
before this week whether there was more religious freedom in the
States or in Thailand I would have said that States without a doubt.
But then again with all the political correctness and lawsuits going
on in the states. I don’t know if that is true. I feel like people
here are more open to ideas that are different than theirs than
people are in the states. Many of us talk about being open minded
but I think that a lot of time we are only open to ideas that we like
and not willing to talk about the ones that challenge us. And often
times, I don’t like to share what I think because I am afraid to
offend someone. I think that maybe part of the problem is that we are
all to easily offended. And we don’t like to hear stuff that will
actually make us grow because it is hard right now.
It
seems like we have taken our freedoms that our forefathers carved out
for us so we could all do our own thing. And turned then back on
ourselves in such away that we have actually started to take away our
own freedoms. It is possible that we have turned religious freedom
into freedom from religion? Food for thought.
