HOWDY!!!

I can not begin to describe how excited I am about having the opportunity to go on this amazing journey! When I was a kid, I was a drug baby… Not in the typical sense that you might think, I mean my parents drug me to church every time the doors were open! Even if they were washing the windows, my family was on the front row waiting for someone to start preaching! I grew up and still live in the semi small town of Magnolia, Tx. For the non Texas geography majors who don’t know where a weird town named Magnolia is located, it’s about a hour north of Houston. Its a cool little area that we have here, but somehow I knew that the road set out for my life would take me way beyond the Magnolia city limits.

Growing up I had always wondered what would be my calling… I think that lis the one question that every person on the earth asks themselves at some point. “Why am I here?” or “Whats my purpose in life?” When I was a jr. in high school I found out what my calling was… missions.

Every friday night we would have a group people, between 10 to 20, and we would make close to 7 maybe 8 hundred breakfast tacos. Then on saturday morning we would go to Walmart, buy a truck full of water bottles, and would make that a hour drive into Houston to feed the homeless. We didn’t go down there with an agenda set on making ourself feel better, but instead we went there to show the love of Christ to people who had been rejected and denied for some of them most of their lives!

I went into that time with the same thought of missions as I think most people have… To go on a mission means to go over seas… That was my thought and I thought it was the only way to do God’s work through mission trips! I was reading in Isaiah chapter 6 and the verse that made me feel like Mike Tyson punched me in the face was verse 8. Then I heard the vice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here I am. Send me!”

I realized that in that passage, it never said “Only go here.” or “Only go there.”… It was at that point when I found my calling. We are all told to go out and to make disciples of all nations, Matthew 28:19, but not all of us are called to be full time missionaries. You could be called to sit at a desk in some corporate job. You could be a coach at a high school, jr high, or even little league. Others could be called to make it their life to go on missions. The point isn’t that you have to go on an over seas mission trip to serve God and show the world his love, but instead to show you that you could do it in your every day life.

We aren’t all called to go overseas, but I know that my calling is to.
