This month we were given a suggested blog title theme for the month of November. The theme for this month is “Missionary”, and although that term means different things to different people the core of the definition is the same: taking a message of hope to people without it. This defines my life. For me, I’m all in, all the time, wherever I go this message goes with me and it brings with it hope to those without it or those that are far from it. This message is the gospel, not some powerless story, but the message of the transforming power of the love of God and saving salvation through Jesus Christ! It truly is all about Gods love, and thats where my road trip begins…
To keep this story short, here is the short version. I broke up with a girl, decided to pursue God instead of anything or anyone else, and begin to rely and trust in Him. A day after the split I decided to do something that required a ridiculous amount of faith, The World Race seemed to fit the bill. As I started passionately pursuing God, I grew in his Word and experiencing His love, and decided that in order to leave on the World Race I needed to sell my harley and give away most of my stuff. This would give me the freedom to only have a truck full of stuff to my name and head out on the road trip of a lifetime. I decided that before I sold the bike I would head out on one last weekend trip. My road trip started that first week of October, and 3 days ago I stopped here in Pocatello, Idaho after visiting 33 states in less than 8 weeks.
I started in Georgia originally after returning from a roadtrip through Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida on my Harley before I sold it. The road trip took me all over the country, all along the east coast and north east as far as Rhode Island, and south as far as Texas, then west as far as Idaho. Next week I am heading up to Washington and Oregon for the weekend and hopefully onto California and Nevada before I leave on January 8th for The World Race. There are a few stops in Montana I would like to make if possible, if not, then maybe when I come home in 2014.
In total, I have driven 7,635 miles…. plus or minus a few hundred. I think I forgot to account for at least 1 tank of diesel fuel somewhere along the road ha ha
I was blessed to love on and pray for hundreds of people throughout my trip. I think I was able to pray with a person in every state but Delaware, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Wyoming. Some of the most memorable were nearly every single security officer at the Smithsonian Museums in Washington DC, street performers in Times Square and a girl on the top of the Rockefeller Plaza 871 ft above the streets of New York City. A young man on the boardwalk in Virginia Beach, my aunt and cousins in Nebraska, I was prayed for by a doctor in Texas which was really neat! Gas station attendants, waiters and waitresses, and every single person I stayed with I was also blessed to pray for. I have no idea how many people I prayed for, and it doesn’t matter really, all that matters is that people felt the love of Jesus wherever I went! I also survived a hurricane and was able to help provide relief efforts teaming up with Team Rubicon and other veterans and helping cut people out of their homes and open up roads blocked by downed trees.
Some neat healings that I saw. A mans right ankle got healed after I stopped and prayed for it during a run in Washington DC. A lady walked without her crutches after we prayed, she hadn’t walked without them in almost 5 months. An older gentleman walked without pain after I stopped him coming out of a college in Texas and prayed for his knee. Numerous peoples backs were healed at a church in Batson Texas that I spoke at. I can count a handful of people that have less allergy issues since I prayed with them. At least 2 people that were healed of sciatic nerve pain in their right legs and back. And countless other amazing things that God did that I can’t remember. I spoke at 3 churches and lead at least 1 young man to a personal relationship with Jesus.
God gave me numerous words of knowledge including one of my favorites. I was at a Trader Joes in Texas and I saw two girls in the checkout line holding bottles of wine and talking about getting drunk. God spoke to me “One of their mothers is praying for them..” I think I chuckled out loud and turned and asked them, “So which one of your mothers is praying for you?”. One of the girls turned and looked at me with eyes wide open and said “That would be mine…”, awesome! Lets pray!
I could almost write a book about the amazing things that God has done on this road trip. And I’m not even finished traveling around the nation quite yet. I have a few more states that I am hoping to head to in the next few weeks, Lord willing. Also I punched two holes in my ears, and one in my lip. Should have stopped somewhere and got a tattoo but I’m doing that before I leave Washington DC and head out of the World Race. The best place I think people and food wise was Texas, although they had the worst drivers. The most interesting place was New York City by far, and the most beautiful was Colorado and Utah.
