First, a little background info…
I’m originally from Reed City, Michigan, a place I have no recollection of. When I was two, my family moved to Fort Worth, Texas where my dad attended seminary. From that point, we moved to several locations in Florida and then to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where I currently live. Along the way I picked up several interests that have stuck with me all these years.
For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed drawing, painting and variety of other art forms. I like to think that my skills have increased a little since elementary school art class though. In middle school, I stumbled upon another long time interest of mine. When trying out for the school band, I figured the trumpet would be a fairly easy instrument to play, so I gave it a shot. Take 1: no sound. Take 2: awful screech. So rather than wasting my time, I decided to give up my dream of being the next Louis Armstrong and chose a more sensible instrument, the drums. The outcome was much better. A couple years later, I found my dad’s old guitar and ended up teaching myself how to play it as well. As I developed a great passion for music, I found many opportunities to use my God given talents to serve Him and His people.
My high school years were marked by several missions opportunities. My first, and most memorable trip took place in Honduras where I was exposed to the reality of poverty and injustice. I also went on short-term trips to Puerto Rico, Idaho, and Jamaica where each left a lasting impression on my heart and mind.
Now, what I’ve been up to lately…
I just graduated from Lee University in May, with a degree in Communications/Advertising and a minor in Graphic Design. Since then, I have been working full time at a label manufacturing plant, in the graphics department. I wouldn’t say it’s my ideal job, but I’m learning a lot about the print industry and getting hands on design experience, which I enjoy.
I’m not embarrassed to say that I moved back in with my parents after college…ok, maybe a little, but it has been great. I’ve been tremendously blessed with parents that have supported me through all of my endeavors, including this crazy adventure ahead of me. They are such an encouragement to me on a daily basis. I also have three brothers and a new sister-in-law that I am so very thankful for. My family has influenced and shaped me in such a positive way and they truly mean the world to me!
Now that I’m back home, I’ve been able to serve and connect more with my church family at Journey Chattanooga. I always look forward to playing in the worship band on Sundays and hanging out with everyone during the week. It’s been great just building relationships and facing life they way God intended it, together with a community of believers.
So, I hope you have a good idea of where I’m coming from. I know this bio is probably leaving you with some questions, but I will do my best to fill in the gaps with future blogs. Hang with me! I’m so excited about sharing God’s work in and through me over the next year and a half. I can’t wait to bring you along on this journey God has in store!
