We arrived in Nairobi, Kenya about a week ago for debrief. We were lucky to stay at a nice backpackers hostel where we hung out and watched movies and enjoyed the time of rest. What I think most of us enjoyed most was the new climate. We have spent the last few months in 90 degree weather with very high humidity. Kenya, at least were we have been is 70’s and dry. It has been a very welcomed change for sure.
We set out Monday afternoon for our ministry site. Our team is alone this month in Nakuru. We are working with a local church and a ministry ran by Bishup and Mama Gladys. They have had an orphanage for the past ten years and the past four a school for the orphans and the local kids who live in a slum beside the school. So far we have visited the kids twice.
Today I got to play with and teach kindergarteners. It is safe to say it was one of the highlights of my trip so far. Though I wasn’t expecting to do anything in class but hang out and see how they teach. I walked in and the teacher said okay you have them for a half hour teach them something. Then suggested we go on a nature walk. I forgot what a nature walk with 20 something 5 year olds is like. It was chaotic to say the least. Partly because of their age and partly because I’m a mzungo (i may have mispelled that but it means white person) and they all wanted to hold my hand. Tash came by and helped bring some order to the craziness and we had fun. Next timeI ask to be a part of a class I will be ready to teach something on the fly that is for sure.
Internet is a bit hard so my contact may be less, but I will keep you up to date as much as possible.
When you sponsor a child it not only provides a hot meal, clean water, discipleship, and basic medical care for the child, it also supports their family by inviting them through the gates of the CarePoint to receive training, discipleship and mentorship.
