Month 6 has come to an end. We have arrived in Eastern Europe and will be headed to Montenegro tomorrow morning. In the meantime, here are some things that may happen when in Ethiopia:
-you may get to live 2.5 hours outside of the city and in the middle of no where in a wide open space!
-you may get to stay in a great house/compound with hot showers, running water, western toilets, comfy beds, living space, a washer and a fully furnished kitchen.
-you may get to go into town every week to go grocery shopping for your whole squad
-You may find that food is super cheap and come in way under budget
-you may have to visit 5 different places to get all the food you need for the week
-you may witness live sheep being tied up and loaded onto the top of a van.
-you may not have Internet for about the whole month which is GREAT!
-you may get to witness amazing sunrises and sunsets EVERY day!
-you may get to train for a 5K or 10K and get to run it at the end of the month
-you may see cows, goats, and sheep just wandering around the streets with no one directing them.
-you may get to hand till a garden with odd looking tools but it makes you appreciate the machines we have in America.
-you may shut an ATM down because you have to pull out money for each treasurer on your squad.
-you may get to paint a house.
-you may get to haul bricks with something they would use back in Bible times. (Think ark of the covenant looking thing…)
-you may get to ride in the back of a dump truck.
-you may receive a single red rose on Valentine’s Day
-you may get served lunch by the guys on your squad
-you may get to learn proper massage techniques from the masseuse on your squad
-you may lose power for 2 days which means you also run out of water therefore you can’t shower, flush toilets, or wash dishes so you may get very resourceful with what you use for plates and you may have to revert back to eating training camp style.
-you may have to wait for a pack of donkeys carrying hay cross the highway. Just an every day occurrence here in Ethiopia.
-you may have $3 per person for 2 meals a day but end up only spending $1.80 on each person because food is so cheap here!
-your amazing cooks may cook you a traditional Ethiopian meal and you may get to enjoy cultural coffee
-you may get to visit Wenchi Crater Lake aka the most beautiful place ever.
-you may get to build a fence
-your squad may do a 24 hour prayer burn/fast for fundraising and God may show up in big ways and answer your prayers
-you may have a lot of downtime during your ministry so you may kill 40 flies while you wait your turn to sift dirt.
-you may get to play volleyball…finally.
-you may attend your first “sorority” party…aka a birthday party for your squad mate with a toga theme.
-you may eat ice cream at 1 in the morning in the Ethiopian airport.
Thank you for the continued prayer and support! Love you all!
