So during our squads stay in Bucharest, we typically stayed up until 4:30am each night. Why, you ask? To put it simply, we can’t get enough of eachother and we rather not sleep than miss out on even a moment together.

The last night we were there, we were planning to have an all-nighter because Team Jubilee had to go to the train station at 4:45am to head to Ukraine for the month (they were in Romania for Month One). Alex Cole and Garrett McNeil were planning to ride along to the train station to pick up their train tickets, so since I was awake anyway, I joined in on the fun! J Little did I know this would be quite the adventure…

So all 10 of us squeezed in the van and we were off to the train station. Before Jubilee left for their train, Aly Beeler says to us that she wants an email about how our ride home goes which we didn’t think too much of, but it turns out she knew what was coming haha

Garrett, Alex and I ventured around the station to find some breakfast-y food but the only thing we found was dried up pastries that did not look appealing. We ended up each getting a double cheeseburger meal with a pop and cappuccino (turns out Mickey D’s doesn’t serve breakfast and they are also against the idea of switching out a pop for a coffee if you’re getting a meal …come on, McDonalds, step it up ๐Ÿ˜‰ The three of us talked about our past month, what we’re hoping to gain moving forward and what we did before the race. I love these convo’s ๐Ÿ™‚

After breakfast we decide it was time to head home so we hopped on the good ole bus 105 still laughing deliriously at basically anything and everything that was happening.

After the laughter fest, we were approaching our stop when an angry Romanian woman came over to us asking to see our bus tickets. When you get on the bus, you’re supposed to put your ticket in a machine that stamps them similar to a hole puncher. However, when we did that, it didn’t work all the way so it looked like we hadn’t had ours stamped at all.   Three big Romanian men then surrounded us along with the woman, we missed out stop and they took us back to the bus station.  They kept asking us for money to pay for some card that wouldn’t been about $50 USD (we’re on a budget and this was not about to be included in it ;). Garrett and Alex were awesome and kept telling them no to whatever they asked (I was lucky enough to be in this situation with not one, but TWO team leaders so I knew I was in good hands). They then wanted to see our passports and documents, which we don’t carry on us so we kept saying no to that too. The woman kept looking at my giganto purse, but I firmly shook my head (that was me doing my part in this haha). The guys kept telling her our money and documents were where we were staying, so then she wanted one of the guys to go back to our place, pick them up and walk back here with them. To this request, Garrett replied with a no. When they asked why, he replied, “because we’re a team”. Haha Best answer ever! They didn’t quite understand what he meant but you could tell they got a kick out of it. At this point, I was trying to hold in my laugh. I think because of all the trouble in Ukraine, things like those don’t really phase me anymore…plus the guys we’re doing awesome given the situation.

After a few more times of them asking for money and us saying no, we had a stare down for a couple minutes and then they let us go. It was pretty evident they just wanted money, but we said heck no! …well, maybe not heck no, but no none the less. J

We walked along a busy street in the dirt sidewalk for about a mile until we got home. At this point it was about 9am and we were supposed to be going grocery shopping with our teams right about then. We were contemplating how we were going to spice this story up even more when we walked in, but we were surprised to find no one awake when we went inside, darn it! haha

Since that fun idea went down the drain, we decided to hang out and lay around the lobby area until people started funneling through so we could share our little adventure with them. I hope this blog is at least half as amusing to read as it was to be there, and it’s not just one of those ‘had to be there’ stories…that would be pretty disappointing because it was pretty awesome.

(we were looosing out miiinds..in a good way, of course ๐Ÿ™‚

Sure we ran into some unexpected issues, but that’s what life is all about. When things don’t go well, you’ve got a great story and even better memories with those you were with. I could’ve stayed in, gone to bed and woke up refreshed..but instead I had an adventure with some awesome people. We had great conversation, uncontrollable laughter and an exciting ending to our morning. God definitely got us home safe and sound when things could’ve gone a different way. We finished the day by playing hours of Egyptian Ratscrew and Euchre, and then it was time to go our next ministry destination.

Turns out that would be another adventure, but I’ll save that till part 2…

Seems like everyday is a new story or crazy adventure. Thank you for your prayers for my team and I. God is without a doubt revealing a lot to us, it’s apparently easier to tell these kind of stories than to explain how He’s working in us and through us but I hope to share more of those experiences with you from here on out.  Although you can see through these stories that He is defintiely watching over us and protecting us from things out of our control.  Thank God for that!

I love and miss you all!
