My team has spent the past few days visiting GEMS schools in some small villages where prostitution is the main occupation. Girls can begin dancing for men at the age of 6 and they don’t receive any parental care or even bathe or comb their hair. There are many crusher plants (machines used to crush stones) so the village has a fog like dust covering the area. At the Gems school children follow a curriculum, get daily devotions, regular medical checkups, and tailoring skills are also taught to the women of the village as they have no other occupations.

We have spent time playing with the kids, singing songs, praying and giving our testimony’s. We don’t always understand what we’re doing or what difference we might be making in someone’s life, but we know that God sent us there for a reason and God is going to show up in that village in big ways even after we’re gone. It’s heartbreaking to know that these little children are living the way they do and it makes spending time with them all the more special. God’s children need to know they are loved. Even you and I need reminders from Him sometimes that He loves us so much and wants relationships with each and every one of us.

Sometimes I find myself feeling hesitant to just sit and listen to God because I think that He’s going to tell me what I did wrong that day or bring up something from the past, but the other day He just reminded me that I am good enough and I am loved. It doesn’t matter if I’ve felt like I’m not good enough in the past, not good enough for a really great guy, not good enough for a job promotion, because I’m good enough for Him. And that’s all that matters.

This week we’re going to be helping with bible studies at the school in the town we’ve been staying in and we’re also painting the walls in the school. The vice principle said that she had been praying for help with painting pictures on the walls and then we came as an answer to her prayers. That was just another reminder that we’re here for reasons beyond ourselves. It’s amazing to think that instead of sitting at a desk all day watching the clock God is using us to answer His children’s prayers!
