I’m out of my comfort zone already, but it still feels like home.
I know I’m not at home, believe me.. I miss my friends and my family and I didn’t say bye to some of the most important people, but my heart still feels at home…This is where I belong. It’s amazing to be in a culture of young people who are so radically in love with Jesus that they are willing to give their lives up and take up their cross daily. It’s just a beautiful thing. A challenging thing! It’s exciting!
I have a beautiful team, our team name is Overflow. We chose this name because that’s what we want our year/lives to look like. We want to be overflowing with Gods love and mercies so that wherever we go, evidence of His love is overflowing from us to others.
One thing that has been said that’s stuck with me is this, “In order to have a great race, you have to actually leave.” Basically- let your mind and heart be wherever your feet are. Sounds easy enough, ya? It is! It should be anyways…
As I sit here in the International Airport, I’m growing more and more excited about this adventure… We are about to get on a plane, and go to the Dominican Republic… I’m stoked!! I’m stoked for the people, I’m stoked for the culture and the weather. I’m excited for the kids, the moms, the teenagers who need to know the love of Jesus and realize their worth. I’m excited about the Kingdom Purpose! About learning to trust God more and learning to go deeper with Him…
One of my dearest friends gave me a Jesus Calling devotional to bring on my trip with me. He proceeded to tell me it once helped him get through the death of his father. I hold it dearly, dearly to my heart. I’ve read it everyday and it always amazes me because each days word fits perfectly with my journey. It seems like the common theme for the week is learning to trust God. With my future, present, and with where I can’t be- home. I’m excited about learning to let my heart be where my feet are.
To the ones at home:
I’m going to miss you the next few months… but it’s just that, a few months. We will all have some days better than others, but we will all have the peace of God in the midst of our chaos. God is good. I’m excited to learn how to love you through the spirit and through prayer, rather than direct words and contact. This is the moment I’ve kindof been trying to avoid… and by kind of I mean, diligently avoiding it like it’s a plague. It’s time to disconnect from home, from attachments, from my security blankets- and it’s time to let God be all He has wanted to be for so long. I’m making my heart be where my feet are. I’m leaving home…
I hope all of you reading this will make a challenge to do the same… Wherever you are, each moment, each day… make sure your heart is embracing that moment with you. Disconnect from the distractions, even if only a moment. Trust God with the worries that are keeping your heart in other places, and do your part by loving through the spirit. Be confident about what God is calling you to, and do it! “When you decide on a course of action that is in line with My will, nothing in heaven nor on earth can stop you.”- Jesus Calling
Let your heart be where your feet are. Let your spirit intervene for where you can’t be.
Check out my team if you get a chance and please keep us in your prayers as we start this journey.
With love,
Andie
