I’ve wanted to write a blog on Unity for a while, but I have yet to do so because each time I start to, there’s so much more I find myself learning. The body of Christ is obviously like a body- that is in the bible! However, I also think of it as a migration of geese. (Okay, odd analogy- I know… but, just go with it for a moment 😉
Have you ever watched geese fly through the sky when they migrate? One of my dearest teachers brought this point to me my senior year and I’ve been fascinated since. They fly in a V shape and studies have shown they actually make it 70% further when flying together than they do when they fly alone. It has to do with the aerodynamics. Now, I’m far from a scientist but it makes sense! The bird that leads the V takes the biggest part of the wind, or force, pressure….RESISTANCE (let’s go with that word!) , while the further back we go the easier it is to fly. As they fly, when the lead bird gets tired, he drops back in a way, relies on the rest of the V … He doesn’t quit but He doesn’t have to try quite so hard. When he has faced enough resistance, he can fall back a little and know that he can keep moving forward with the rest of his little geese family! and bird from the back or middle quickly takes the point. This continues until… well, they decide they are where they need to be I suppose. Haha
Isn’t that like the body of Christ? Let me rephrase that… Isn’t that what the body of Christ should look like? Is that not the most perfect example of Unity?
Through applying for the World Race, attending Training Camp, raising money, talking to so many fellow lovers of Christ- I have gained such an understanding of what the “BODY OF CHRIST” means.. What that looks like, and how we create that atmosphere in our daily lives. It’s a lifestyle, really.
My squad, the 50 people going on the same route as me, was what God really used to teach me this lesson. From the moment we were added onto the same Facebook page 6 months ago, there was something so unique. 50 people were here, all with the same heart, the same goal, running the same race to get the same prize….and all having to raise upwards of $16,000…. We would pray for each other, cry to each other, and laugh with each other because raising money is HARD (in case you didn’t know) but then the most amazing thing started happening… We were DONATING TO EACHOTHER. I have to say, I wasn’t one of the people who started that, but what a beautiful thing it was! We all have a hard goal, we all are running a race that sometimes feels impossible to finish, but we were all together and are together through it. When one is completely exhausted, he can rest in his family knowing that we are all still flying alongside and supporting him.
This whole concept of being a BODY OF CHRIST is so beautiful. It’s an art really… Just as art expresses what is in our heart, walking in unity with one another expresses what is in Gods heart. It’s beautiful. It’s encouraging. It’s unique. It’s NECESSARY and it’s something I really think God is awakening a revelation of. I really believe He is stirring within our spirits, the importance and the beauty of Unity. We are all here with the same purpose- to point to the cross. The way we do that is unique, but it’s the same goal- to finish the race!
Let us stand by each other and walk with one another through this journey. The best way to walk in Unity is to WALK IN LOVE. That’s what it comes down to, folks. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.
LOVE TO LOVE!!!!
Colossian 3:13-14 “Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
To my O SQUAD:
Thank you for walking in LOVE, at all times, and setting such a beautiful example of what it looks like to walk in unity… It’s enough to inspire the world to do the same.
