This blog title is much more than you can imagine, it’s the name to a movie that was made to share the story of a tribe that came to know Jesus…The tribe I get to live with this month. (It’s a must watch 🙂 )
Well… It looks like India was nothing like I had expected. Even traveling to India was stretching. We flew out Saturday morning and arrived to Imphal on Monday afternoon. Jetlag was real, and my body was not reacting so great. Sickness came over me for the first 3 days, and I thought to myself ” I didn’t come all the way to India to be in bed”. So With much prayer, I pushed through and leaned on The Lord like never before. I’m so blessed to say The Lord healed me and I’m feeling better than ever. I’m energized and so excited about our ministry.
We are in a city called Sielmat, staying in a village of The Hmar people. Watkin Roberts, a missionary from Great Britain evangelized to their tribe in 1910. Originally the British government didn’t want him to go because the tribe was known for beheading people, but he pushed and said He would still go because God was with him. Our host contact, John, his father, Ro was sent to be educated and made it all the way to Wheaton College, where he has sponsored by the president of World Vision. While there, he worked at night to translate the bible into the Hmar language so his people could learn on their own. After graduating from Wheaton, he moved back to India where he began to work in his community. Today the ministry has a hospital, school, seminary, and other outreach tools.
Although India was not at all what I though it would be like, regarding people groups and culture, the people here in northeast India have loved us so well and given us many opportunities to love on them as well. We have worked at a children’s retreats (this was one of the most impactfill moments of this month, hearing all the children sing “bless The Lord oh my soul” the Holy Spirit moved in me and I got a glimpse of what heaven will be like) we also served at bible schools, and we had a field day with the local women, And done construction work within the city.
One of the things I love the most about being here is being able to go to a prayer mountain in the mornings to spend time with God. Give him the adoration and time he deserves. The locals go there often and worship The Lord with an unconditional love and attention, what an inspiration they have been for me. I pray we would learn to carve out time for The Lord like the Hmar people do.
Now that our ministry here in India is coming to an end, I am thankful I was sick. I am thankful that The Lord taught me from the very beginning that If I was going to do this “worldrace” I was going to need him in everything, and humble myself to let others serve me. I am thankful I have been able to serve him by simply loving on people without an agenda. I have learned that even when I think I am leaning on Him, you can always lean in some more, you can trust him so more, and ultimately experience more of what God has for you through the good and the bad.
unfortunately, I can’t post pictures at this time but I will post a blog just of pictures so you can see these beautiful people that God loves so much And so do I.
