This month team Galilee has been serving the Lord in Skopje, Macedonia. We have been serving lunch to people from young to old at a church in Sutka. Sutka is the largest Romani settlements in the world. Roughly 17,000 Roma people live in this city outside the capital. As most of you read in my last blog this population of people is a very unreached group of society and they have captured my heart. Each day that we went to the soup kitchen we walked through the streets filled with the smell of an assortment of things burning in houses and the multitude of trash lying around. Upon arriving at the church we played various hand games, soccer, Frisbee, around the world ping pong, ran races, and spent much time learning the children’s names. Once the clock hit 12 we would all go in and they would sing a few songs praising the Lord in their language. We caught on to a few of them and clapped along. A couple of days I had brought the book my grandma had written and got the chance to read/help read with them to practice their English. It was so special seeing them read and help them comprehend what they were reading. Each day we walked back to the bus stop a few children would follow us, hang on us, or ramble in their language about one thing or another. After lunch today (our last day with them) the woman who helps run it prayed over us and then one of the young men prayed for us as well. I will never know what he prayed but to hear him pray over us blessed me beyond words. It just showed that the Lord is working and moving there. Today as we said our good byes and headed to the bus stop, we had a posy of about 15 kids following us and taking selfies every ten steps. As bad as I wanted to hang out with them the rest of the day I had to keep walking cause I could feel my heart crumbling by the stretched out goodbyes. I am completely honored to have met and loved on these children for the last three weeks and I pray to see them all again in Heaven! I will continue to pray for my friends and brothers and sisters in Christ here in Sutka and that the Lord continues to shine His light in this community and in these homes. Please be praying for my team and I as we finish out our last week here in Macedonia as a team and pray for us as we will be heading into debrief where our teams will change and then our new teams will prepare to head to Africa come December 2. Thank you all for your love and support. I am so thankful for each and every one of you! I wouldn’t be out here with out you! Also Happy Thanksgiving from way over here in Skopje!
