Meet Mrs. Dixon. She’s the 2yr olds teacher at the basic school next door to us. Mariah and I are assistant teachers to this sweet class, which we visit every day from 9:30-1:30. During this time we get to engage in some serious ministry that includes nap time, play time, and snack time. Yesterday we came in like every other day but this day was different than the rest. Yesterday Mrs. Dixon pulled us aside and started to share her testimony with us. She shared her long battle with breast cancer in 2003 and how she was close to death. Before that she was hardened to the gospel, refusing to accept Jesus as her Lord and savior. But during her battle with cancer, something inside of her changed. As she pulled out clumps of hair in the bathroom, she fell to her knees and cried to God for the first time in a long time. It was on her deathbed, when the end of the road seemed closer than she was expecting, that she turned to the Lord. And from that day forward, with the Lord by her side, and in front of her, and carrying her, she found a hope that gave her renewed strength that surpassed all understanding.

Let me make this clear: when Mrs. Dixon gave her life to Christ, she did not become instantly healed. Her struggles didn’t end there. Life got real hard and every. single. day was a freaking battle for her life. Psalm 23 says that even when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we don’t have to fear for He is with us; His rod and staff comfort us. Now that’s a promise we can hold onto. And hold on is exactly what Mrs. Dixon did.

And ya wanna know what? 14 years later and Mrs. Dixon is completely cancer free! Redeemed, healed, made new not just physically but spiritually. Hallelujah!
Sweet ole Mrs. Dixon wanted me to share this story and tell the whole world to “Never Give Up.” She wanted you and me to know that no matter what kind of battle we are facing today, please don’t ever give up. Keep fighting, keep breathing, and keep believing. Because the cracks are really what allow the light to shine through.

Here’s to holding fast, to never giving up, to wounded warriors, and to Mrs. Dixon!!
