So I asked the question of some of the girls on my team, “Which do you think is more painful for your eyes; staring at a computer for 8 hours a day or picking lice and nits out of little girl’s hair?” General consensus – nit-picking.

The ministry we are working with is New Life Christian Home in Jalaca, Honduras. There are currently 47 kids living in the orphanage, and they are all so beautiful! New Life is operated by Ron and Annette Thiesen, an amazing couple who have devoted their lives do doing God’s work. God is doing amazing things here as He works to bring the Honduran children out of their struggle and into a great life full of community, education, and love!

You can only imagine my team’s surprise when we were told that some of us would be picking lice form the little girl’s hair. Something I didn’t imagine myself doing, but here we are. Most have lice and nits, some of the girls with thousands of nits, some with only a few. It’s a challenging ministry for me but all perfect in God’s timing. This ministry has allowed me to slow down and be comfortable with accomplishing little battles in the war. It’s allowed me to build relationships with the 27 girls. It’s allowed me to practice Spanish. It’s allowed me to breath.

Other awesome points of note:
Month two is all squad month and we are all living together at one house, in hammock and tent city!
Honduras is beautiful; mountains and rolling hills everywhere! Julie, a girl on my team., compares it to Montana. The people are different here and I find it so interesting that they say “Adios” as they walk by you. “Hola” is saved for times when you are going to have a conversation and not just a passing by. The town we are living in is called “Talanga” It’s a quaint town with little shops and lots of people. With our ministry being located outside of Talanga, we have about an hour to an hour and a half commute via 2 buses, walking, and a truck ride, getting in my steps for sure (and for those wondering, I’m STILL rocking my pedometer)!
And if you haven’t figured it out, yet, we don’t have any access to Internet this month (well minus Saturdays, our days off). So you can imagine how much more you get done when you aren’t attached to your computer, tablet, iPad, or phone. Its been a great time to reflect on the Race so far, spend time in the Word and in prayer, to read, build relationships with the team and the squad, and enjoy where we are. Definitely a blessing!
Dios de bendiga!

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’ And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ ~Matthew 25
