Month 2.
How is this possible?
11 reasons why month 1 was awesome:
11. Guatemalan time is a lot different than time is the States. For that matter, Mama Hilda time is different than Guatemalan time.
10. Sleeping in a hammock is amazing…. But get a double nest J
9. Team time washing dishes (for 50+) is exhilarating. Most importantly, would you rather give up salty snacks or sweet snacks?
8. Speed bumps in Guatemala kill an unknown number of people a year. Ok, maybe not for real, but they are intense!
7. Dogs are EVERYwhere. My neighborhood favorites were Bernie, Rusty, Shaggy, and Scruf McGuff.
6. Roosters don’t wake you up at 5am; they wake you up ALL the time
5. Bananas are soooo cheap (en serio, you can get 12 fresh bananas for less than a dollar!). That’s because Chiquita and Dole are co-located here in Puerto Barrios. Actually, they are the same company; same bananas, same banana trees. How ‘bout them apples?
4. Fun facts: You don’t flush toilet paper down the toilet, it goes in the trashcan. Cold showers are amazing. Beans, rice, and corn tortillas are staples for every meal.
3. There is always more room for people in a cab or on a bus… or on a flat bed truck… or in Petunia, our panel van. We had 30 adults in the van once, bet you can’t beat that!!
2. The people of Guatemala are beautiful, welcoming, loving and extremely hospitable. During street ministry we saw just how wonderful they are as they would invite us in, sometimes feed us, and send us away more blessed than we were when we got there. Everyone says “Hola, Buen Dia” as you walk by. I love that!
1. Sunshine (aka Christian)… Paul, Hilda, Tio Ronie, Fernando, Pastor Ronie and his beautiful family, Petunia (our sweet panel van), and JEN! Thank you all for all you did during our month, for the work you are doing in Guatemala, and for your hearts ever chasing God J
Guatemala was amazing and Casa Verde was a great start to what is going to be the most epic year of my life. God is working in me and through me to share His love with others. He is moving in so many ways and I can’t wait to see what the next 10 months have in store.
Thank you all for the opportunity you have helped make a reality.
Ecstatic to serve, ready for Honduras!!!
