“It’s all about You, Jesus.” We sing this and similar words so often, and yet how many of us are living like we really believe this! This is my heart’s cry, to COMPLETELY get over myself. My heart’s desire is to have the Lord’s heart for people and His kingdom here on earth. I have cried out to the Lord to give me a limp (like after Jacob wrestled with the Lord) and to be broken for wherever He is calling me. My life is not my own, I was bought with a price and it is my joy and privilege to serve the Lord! I have never been more fully alive then since stepping in to this wild, crazy adventure with the Lord!

Imagine for a moment sitting outside on the step of a shop, hoping someone will stop to buy some of your peanuts so that you can buy your next meal. Your only connection to the world is one eye. No sense of hearing, no voice to speak and only one eye to take in your surroundings. What would your view of life be like? You can’t ask for anyones help, you can’t hear what people passing by are saying. You make motions with your hands to try to communicate, but mostly just sit and watch all that passes by. Lots of time to think. What would be important to you? What would your attitude be? This is the life of a man in Palenque. I saw him sitting on the step as a teammate and I were on a prayer walk through town. The Lord filled me with His love for this man. We stopped and used the sign language we know to tell him we love Jesus and that Jesus loves him. He seemed to understand. His expression was tender as we laid our hands on him and prayed. This man literally has no voice that can be heard unless people will take the time to really listen.
Further down the same street sits an elderly man, also blind. Sitting on a turned over bucket, bowl in lap, he waits for a compassionate soul to walk by and share in his story. Where will his daily bread come from? We were able to provide it for him today…but what about tomorrow, and the next? He desperately needs the Bread of Life that God alone supplies. He reaches out his hand as we stop to talk with him. We hold his hands and tell him that He is loved by God. We pray and bless him in the name of Jesus, and he responds “Si” (yes) in agreement with us as we talk to our Provider.
Listen to the voices crying out around you, or maybe the ones that are silent. Every one has a story to share. Open your eyes and ears, hear what their hearts are crying out for, and then enrich their lives. That’s what we’re here for, all of us. We are meant to do two things: love God & love people.
