For the month of August my whole squad was in Trujillo, Peru.  It was all squad month so all 45 of us lived together in one place and mostly did ministry together.  We stayed at a school owned by our ministry hosts Joel and Maria Savage.  Maria teaches the pre-schoolers (which is the only grade they have this year) from 8am – 12pm, and Joel is one of the pastors of a church we attended a few days a week known as El Yo Soy.
Our ministry work for the month looked a lot different for everyone and a lot different from day to day.  In our first week we hosted a vacation bible school for the kids in the neighborhood, we had about 100+ kids show up for it.  we played games. told bible stories, had crafts for them to do and snacks.  It was an awesome week for the kids and for us.
For the rest of the month we all did different ministries.  We had some helping out in the school with the pre-schoolers (what I did mostly), some doing
hospital visits, prison ministry, door to door ministry and preaching in churches.  We truly had the full spectrum of ministry this past month and it was awesome.
One thing I want to talk specifically about is the school that Joel and Maria own and the children that attend.  The class right now has about 14 who attend regularly, and the kids come from the surrounding community which is one of the poorest neighborhoods in Trujillo.  Some kids are sent to school with no food, so when it comes time to eat they dont have anything.  It broke my heart to
see this from day to day.
These kids are all able to go to school because of sponsors, but there are 7 of them who still need a sponsor in order to continue school next year.  If you are at all interested in sponsoring one of the children please check out their website: www.savageministries.com
Please pray for Joel and Maria.  They are bringing Christ to the commmunity and are bringing so many people to know Him through what they are doing.  They are living by Christ, everything they have and have been able to buil has been a straight gift from The Lord and it shows.  I am so thankful I was able to meet them and get to know them this past month (and cut their hair :)), and am so glad I will be able to stay in touch with them.
Joel and Maria – please know that we had an awesome month with you guys and you have an army or believers praing for you daily.  God bless!
