I have had such a whirlwind of activity the past few weeks and I want to say thank you to everyone for your continuous prayers for my health while I was still in La Paz. The doctors we very concerned I had HACE (high altitude cerebral edema) but I am much better now and am very happy to be in warmer weather!
I came to Rurrenabaque on Friday 7/20 from La Paz with my squad leader Wes and friend Courtney who was also very sick. The flight was about 30 minutes of seeing God’s incredible beauty come to life. We flew over some of the tallest peaks in the Andes Mountains and then straight into the jungle (when we landed I half expected a dinosaur to jump out at us like in Jurassic Park). We stepped off the plane and I turned around, I kept turning..no airport, just a runway. I immediately thought ‘now this is the kind of place I can live in’. A small bus took us to the “airport” where we could pick up our luggage (the airport was about the size of my parent’s house), we went to the house we are staying at to drop off our things and then went straight to the ministry sight.
Our ministry in Rurrenabaque has been helping clean, paint, build, etc. a mission by the name of El Faro. This ministry houses boys who want to learn more about the the Bible and also reaches out to the community with movie nights, childrens’ ministry and church services on the weekends.
Being in this place for the rest of the month has shown me how God can bless me in the most unlikely way. Being sick was not fun at all, I couldn’t stand being stuck in a house all day not being allowed to do ministry, but coming here was definitely worth waiting on The Lord for. The beauty of Him has come alive to me so much in this place I pray I never stop remembering how He has shown that to me.
Sometimes The Lord takes us from places of sickness, brokenness, hurt, pain, and suffering, and brings us into places of such wonder and beauty just to show us His grace, mercy and incredible power. All we have to do is wait on Him and His perfect timing; rest in Him and He will take care of everything.
Is there an area in your life where you are broken and suffering? Is it time for you to stop relying on your own plans and ability and start waiting for Him? He wants you to rely on Him, and if and when you do, He will show you His insanely awesome love and power like you’ve never experienced before.
