My favorite moments this past week were at the Indian school/home.  It isn’t a big home, there are only about ten children living there. They are either orphaned or their families couldn’t care for them and needed a safe place to leave them. Once a year, their family may come to visit them or the child will travel to see them.

We were sent to help clean up the garden. We pulled weeds, planted medicine plants, and raked up the trash and leaves. We also were asked to cut the grass…..with scissors. Ummm, ok?  It was hot, but we managed to make the most of it and laugh our way through it. We used the time to get to know each other better.

The children came to watch us work. After we started to talk to them, they joined in to help. They do yard work every Saturday. They told us they usually hire someone to cut the grass with a machine. haha.

The most amazing part was how God filled me with his love for these children. HIS children. It just poured out of me. We only had two days with them, and I really didn’t know if we could connect in such a short time, but it was instant.

I told Isaac, one of the boys, “He was my favorite.” He giggled and sat closer to me. He is 10 years old. We talked about his family as I showed him pictures of mine. He has a mother, a little sister, and brother. He is the only one who is living away. His smile disappeared when he spoke of home. He is happy to be where he is, but I sensed a longing to be with his family. My heart broke for him. He began writing on the chalk board, and he turned it to me. The words “Jesus loves Amy” were written on it. I hugged him and asked him if he believed in Jesus. With a smile, he said, “Yes.”

It was the BEST day!

If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails….Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
