I have been substitute teaching for the passed couple of weeks. Its such an awesome job if you’re stuck in a state of “life-limbo”. I highly recommend it! Most of the time I have been with high school kids, but this passed Monday I was called in for kindergarden…
It was very interesting..The kids were so excited to tell me about themselves, and show me what they were learning. Someone needed help tying their shoes, then another one needed to go to the bathroom, or someone needed help making their play dough letters…The capital “E’s” were ALWAYS backwards, and at least one kid was ALWAYS thirsty!! And so the day went on…
Nevertheless, they were absolutely adorable, and for the most part very well behaved. At the end of the day I had them cleaning and packing up when I felt a little tap on my leg. I looked down to find one of the most considerate, kind-hearted boys of the class trying to grab my attention. He looked up at me and said, “Guess what!” So I knelt down and said, “What’s that??” He gave me a big hug and said, “I love you..”, and walked back over to his seat.
My heart melted into a puddle, and I considered becoming a kindergarden teacher for a whole 10 minutes or so.. 😛
But, later on the Spirit started making some connections in my mind and heart. That little boy had barely known me. I had met him just 6 hours before…But, he had the innocent trust and faith to say something that most adults have a hard time finding the courage to say at all…But, I think that this story is just a small picture of how it pleases the Father’s heart when we genuinely love Him. God is so high and deep and far and wide…He is endless!! We will never know Him in His fulness this side of Heaven! But our Father is making a whole kingdom of people who will take the wonderful bits that we know of Him and say, “I LOVE you, Daddy!”
Jesus tells His disciples in Mark 10:15 that those who believe with childlike faith are the ones who will enter Heaven. He found joy in spending time with the children for that reason!
Sometimes we just have to put our need to understand aside…And, forget about our personal experiences, and simply say, “Guess what, God!? I LOVE YOU!!” 🙂
