For the third week in a row a coworker had inadvertently scheduled a meeting during my lunch period. Everyone in the education field knows, your lunch period is sacred. It's the only time in the day you have to be around and talk with adults. A small window of time to decompress from the craziness that is 28 eight year olds. Needless to say, I was "slightly annoyed" that I had to give up my precious 14 to 21 minutes (on a good day) to meet with a panel concerning my little ones.
After wrapping up the student discussion, I decided to go ahead and take my 15 mins. of "peace and quiet." To my surprise there was an organization providing free lunch in the teacher's lounge (and it was far more tasty than anything I had packed that day I assure you 😉 Blessing #1. As I sat there exhausted and still miffed that my daily routine had been disrupted, a gray haired lady from the organization providing our lunch politely gave me some information and asked if I wanted to join. "I think I'm already a member." I responded. She agreed that in fact I did belong.
Because this wasn't my normal lunch period, I was able to visit with coworkers I generally have little to no interaction, Blessing #2. Conversation flowed and somehow turned into discussion of said organization. "My husband has been asking me to join for years!" one coworker commented. The other two were new to teaching and within the 12 minutes I'd been sitting there, all 3 ladies made the decision to join. New members were awarded a gift card to their favorite store. Listing me as there "recruiter," I too received three $50 gift cards to Giant grocery store… Blessing #3. I sat there in total amazement of the generosity of my coworkers. Knowing the World Race was right around the corner and my budget was tight, they were so excited to give me this gift!
In Matthew 6:26 (NLT) we are reminded to "Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?" This passage makes it clear, Father God knew what I needed in that moment. He knew that in that small inconvenience would be a much bigger blessing!
