When asked how much I need to raise for this voyage, I find it hard to give a number. I mean, you can’t really put a number on an experience like this, can you? Many of the items that I received this Christmas were centered around the Race, which was so exciting! However, it only increased my awareness that I have a lot of other things to acquire, besides monetary needs, before I feel confident in actually trekking across the world. I’ve received a good number of emails and have had a slew of conversations that have gone something like; “I would love to support you, what is the best way for you at this point? I am happy to do whatever works best!”
Honestly, the whole fundraising process has been hard for me. I am not worried about coming up with the money, I’m confident that since I’ve been called to this ministry that the funds will come, I’m just worried about how. I’ve been in the midst of reading this book called Friendraising by Betty Barnett. She addresses my issue of independence, my unattainable conceited desire to not ask for help. This is not tangible, as there is no way that I can raise all of this support on my own, but it also is completely selfish! One of the cool things that I am learning about fundraising is that it invites people to partake in an even greater story. All of my supporters are so vital to what God is going to do in this upcoming journey; I just get to be the hands and feet! By humbling myself, and accepting that I am going to need to have a posture of interdependence, I can now see that “generosity involves freedom with no indebtedness except that of love.” I am so grateful and flabbergasted by your support thus far. Thank you for your willingness to walk alongside me in this journey and spur me on.
