We're in Cambodia- never have I ever walked across a border with a 50 pound pack before, until yesterday.
What a month Thailand was- it was the hardest thus far for us as a team, but definitely learned from the struggles. So thankful to get the chance to work with a thriving, lively, energetic college ministry to lift our team up in more ways than they know.
Some Highlights:
I was asked to tell a church about Thanksgiving and gladly agreed… I found out that I don't actually know what Thanksgiving is, since I continued to misinform 40 Thai people that Thanksgiving is our Independence Day where we celebrate our freedom from the British…
Visited an old woman in the slums, where we brought her some fruit, played Jingle Bells, prayed with her, and my favorite, sang Pete Townsend's(yes, I took the time to google who sang this song, even using a precarious Cambodian internet connection) "Let My Love Open the Door"
Put together an English book for the ministry to use for their classes
Celebrated my teammate Tiffany's 24th birthday by locating a mexican restaurant and successfully had them bring out a cake– just impressed that we actually found a place in Asia with Cholula sauce
Had Thanksgiving meal at a Sizzler and cooked pumpkin pie and stuffing for the Thai students– also attempted to explain what "Black Friday" is, which got a good reaction after revealing that Wal Mart workers are at very high risk
Got to just hang out with, pray with, play Sequence with(holy crap they love board games), and sing with a bunch of really cool college kids that have faith that challenges mine, considering most of their families are still Buddhist
Thankful for a month of a lot of free time because our team worked through some issues. I'm learning that I've got a lot to work on and that this whole "living in community" gig is harder than it seems. I think it brings so much out of you- kind of like when you're in the ocean and when you step out the sand gets all mixed up. Then it settles for a minute, but another step and stuff gets brought up to the surface again- I feel like this trip does that in lots o' ways, and this month was dealing with that stuff as a team.
