As launch gets closer, I have begun dreading leaving behind my family, friends and loved ones.
I have been noticing many of my fellow route-mates are struggling with similar anxieties. I have to say, launch seems to be getting closer and closer faster than I expected.
Therefore I would like to share with you all a song that touches my heart.
At mass this Sunday, I was contemplating my trip and all I am leaving behind… and the choir began to sing “Pescador de Hombres”-“Fisher of men”
This particular song is Pope John Paul II’s favorite hymn.
WHY? PJP was often extremely homesick for his homeland of Poland.
I cried.
It was perfect.
Lord, When you came to the sea shore
You weren’t seeking the wise or the wealthy
but only asking that I might follow
Oh Lord, in my eyes you were gazing
kindly smiling
my name you were saying
All I treasure I have left on the sand there.
Close to You,
I will find other seas.
Lord, You knew what my boat carried
neither money nor weapons for fighting
but nets for fishing, my daily labor
Lord, have you need of my labor?
Hands for service, a heart made for loving
arms for lifting the poor and the broken
Lord, send me where You would have me
to a village, or heart of the city
I will remember that You are with me
Oh Lord, in my eyes You were gazing
softly smiling
my name you were saying
All I treasure
I have left on the sand there
Close to You
I will find other seas
We may be leaving all we treasure…
But We will go to villages and cities…
We will lift the poor and the broken…
We will have each other
and He will be near us.
We are destined for other seashores.
Hope this helped.
Thanks for reading

It’s prettier in Spanish!
